Question about my custom built (about 12 years ago) (Windows 7 Photoshop 6) (really fast & powerful in it's day) desktop: 8 gigs ram, new 250 SSD hard drive, not sure of processor. Will the new AI programs work? I assume they will be slow but will they work at all. I'm retired so slow is ok, but too slow might be longer than I have :).

Not sure what you're asking? Are you going to pay the rent and go to the cloud? If so, you ought to be able to try it for a month and see if it works, right? ... or, are you talking about an altogether different program? If so, what? Anyway, I guess my question to you is, do you want recommendations for a new computer or for new software?

There may be hardware and operating system compatibility issues with modern AI software. 8GB of ram is minimal, especially if you're using AI software as a plug-in. And a 250GB SSD will be OK for installing AI software as long as you have something else for storing your photos and edits.

Compatibility issues aside, AI software will run on your PC but you'd probably find yourself hitting a brick wall quite frequently.

...agree with R.G. If you could bump the RAM up to 16 GB that would help, and your GPU could surely use an upgrade. These two factors could be just what you need...

It is doubtful that your graphics card will be compatible with current AI technologies. If so, all of the AI processing will be done using the CPU and memory of the base system. In that case, you will hit that wall much sooner and more frequently.

Specifically, check the Open GL requirements.

Depends on your build. I built and loaded the win OS on 4/21/11 using Asus Maximus IV Extreme motherboard with a liquid cooled Intel 2600K processor running at 3.4Ghz. Along the way I upgraded to 16GB memory and added a 3 SSD drives, one C:, the other two for image storage and PP, and upgraded to a the Graphics Processor to an Nvidia GForce GTX1080 with 8GB video ram. Every once in a while I open the case to blow out the dust, and maybe change a failed fan. Performance is fairly reasonable running LrC, Photoshop, and the full Topaz suite, although it does take some time when Topaz AI is "Applying" to the entire image. While this build is still humming along, I am thinking of building a new one as well. Let us know what you decide.

Ai often make use of a graphics cards GPU to enhancement performance. It is highly unlikely you have a powerful enough graphics card to meet AI requirements. For some software it may mean extremely slow processing, for other software AI won't work at all. It depends on the software's minimum requirements. Additionally, you are running Windows 7 which is probably not supported by most, if not all, current software with AI functionality.

I am not sure it will even run on Windows 7. Nope it won't. This is from their site: Windows 7, 8
AI is not designed to run on Windows 7 or 8 and is not supported on these operating systems.

I have an Nvidia 1050Ti with 4 gig of DDR5 is still considered as sufficient for Graphics gaming and editing I have no slow processing problems. My DIY budget computer uses an AMD series 5, 3600 CPU and 32 gig 3200 of Ram.

Comments about the Nvidia 1050Ti "the 1050 the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC 4G. This card has great performance in gaming due to the help from the extra 4 GB of video memory... Photoshop and 3D modeling tools like blender work great when you pair this graphics card with a decent CPU. " 5/2020

If you download a trial version you you can see how fast it will run.
