Just testing it to see work distance after doing so don't think I will be using on insects in the field working distance too close

Looks good! I have the Raynox 250 which I use all the time on my 1x macro. Using a 2x macro plus the Raynox seems a good alternative to maybe getting one of the super macro lenses. Your kit saves you from switching out lenses all the time.

Consider the Optika lenses, as I recall when I researched before buying my 10X addon, the Optika has more elements and so probably less chromatic aberration (CA), also called chromatic distortion. The cost is much lower for Opteka $25 vs Raynox $70. Same for the 2X?

Indeed Raynox lenses are very good. I have 3 the most powerful is +32 diopters. I also have the Laowa 25mm, 2.5-5x lens. All are good options for high mag work.

I find it almost impossible to work at high mags without a tripod and focusing rail (to make stacks). Photographing live insects in constant motion would certainly be very difficult.

Incidentally, I use micro 4/3 cameras for macro so 5x magnification has the same FOV as 10x on a FF camera. I have not noticed significant chromatic aberrations my Raynox lenses.

I noticed that in your photos the sensor plane and object are not completely parallel so focus stacking would even be helpful here.

Just seeing what kind of magnification I would be getting and seeing if it was feasible to even try in field and realized not really 2X works good enough in the field going to get a rail in a few weeks to use indoors on tripod
