It would be a lot more real if it had a leading actor who wasn't such an egocentric bore and played characters closer to his real age, although he's doing ok for a man who's soon to be 60.

True. I just found out that Cruze is an accomplished pilot. Check this out.

He usually does a good job capturing his character in movies although he has some busts like Vanilla Sky. The one movie I've avoided is Reacher -- I've read all the Reacher novels and why on earth they would cast him as Reacher who is 6'1" and 220 lbs. is a mystery to me. I just couldn't wrap my mind around him in that role. Of course I blame the books author for letting the studio cast him. The author should have retained a veto in character assignment.

I saw an eight minute trailer of "Top Gun - Maverick" on YouTube. That's about all I will be seeing of the movie. However, it is more than what I saw of the original "Top Gun" movie.
I was thinking about watching "Top Gun" on Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube or whatever but wasn't willing to pay eight bucks to rent it.

I agree about Reacher. I too have read all the Reacher books, including the latest which he co-wrote with his brother Andrew (who also writes books under the name of Andrew Grant). You need to watch the Amazon series "Reacher". The lead actor is a real Reacher.

Check your local library. If they don't have it they can probably order it for you.

I ran across a web site which provided 79 cringeworthy errors in the original "Top Gun". If you were ever in the Navy, or even served in the military, there are glaring mistakes. You also don't have to be a aeronautics engineer to understand that a "flat spin" is just that.

While it does dim the fun a bit, it's also good to know that I wasn't nuts when Maverick "gunned" his F-14 during approach, and immediately accelerate.

You have to take the movie as a "fun run".

There are websites dedicated to pointing out flaws in movies. Movies have to balance realism with entertainment, and entertainment often wins.

reading through the series now 6 down working 7th, feel the same way about Cruze playing Reacher, he is a decent actor but wondered how many lifts were in his shoes and where they found so many short actors to work with him.
After 5 min had tour turn off movie, it just didn't he just didn't fit the part.

I disliked the original movie so much that I would never go see this one. Beautiful PhD scientist falls for hot dog pilot...give me a break. 🤦‍♂️
