A friend posted on Facebook about her experience reporting her car stolen.

FOUND!!!!! On Saturday afternoon at approximately 12:45pm, in a panic, I called the Saugerties Police department to report my car missing from my driveway. Damn, the timing was terrible - Alan needed to race up to Albany for a gig but had to call his band mates to say my car had been stolen. My parents raced over to the house, I called Justin and my neighbor Zack (known for once chasing an alleged burglar off our block)…..the cops thought maybe my car at been repossessed, but i snidely told the officer I have excellent credit…..We are all stunned and in a panic.

Moments after Zack left, he comes racing back down the block “I found your car! It’s in front of the bank!” F#CK…I ran into my house thinking the thief took my keys AND my bank card, but my keys and bank card were still in my bag in the house ….?? so i called back the police, they told me don’t touch anything…..at this point, I’m so confused!!!!

Then - it dawned on me. ????????

KEYS…..BAGELS…….COFFEE…..that morning, I was too tired (lazy) to walk up the hill, so I drove to get breakfast. I walked home like I do like all the time, forgetting I had parked my car “in front of the bank!”

Oooooops….I called back the officer….I may have “excellent credit”, but my memory on the other hand...

Now there are bunch of cops who are alternating between rolling on the floor laughing and &^%@#$ about you and your car.

Watch for an anonymous drop off of a copy of "Memory Retention Tricks For Dummies" in the large print edition.

I did something very similar back in the '60s but it was in the middle of a snow storm. And, we had only one car so I had to walk back to get it. My wife still reminds me of that sometimes.

I just remembered I once thought my car was stolen, I walked out from my apartment behind the landlord's house and looked at my normal parking space-NO CAR! I turned to run back in and call the cops and collect my motorcycle from the garage it shared with the land lords motorcycle to get to clss and there was my car 1/4 block away on the other side of the street. Then I remembered that the night before when I got home most of the block on my side was taped off "Wet Paint" they had redone all the parking spaces etc. and the paint was still wet. So I parked down the street on the other side. Then I stayed up until 2 AM or so working on a report for a college class and slept until 10 AM when I got up to go to class and then work. By that time they had removed the tape and cars were parked all over like normal and my usual space to the left of the driveway in front of the land lord's house was sitting empty. Good thing I turned to the right to go back in and saw my car happy as could be under a shade tree down the block. If I had turned around to the left I would not have seen it.
