This shot was taken at the animal sanctuary in Laguna Hills, California. I spent almost five minutes for him to look at the camera, and when he finally did, he looked stunned.

Did you use a flash? Have you ever had someone blast a flash in your eye's? I don't belong to PETA, but I also don't think animals or birds should have to put up with so called photographers either. Suppose the owl was flying when he was blinded and it flew into a wall.

No, I used no flash, for one the bird couldn’t fly and two I know better to use flash on animals that spook easily.

Yes, it's one of my main lenses, I love doing macro with it.

Great shot. It's they eyes on these little owls. I think they are the most photogenic of all owls.
