Springtime amazes me...
I'm frequently amazed by the birds that find their way into our general vicinity during Springtime. Yesterday's trip to the local mountains to the recently revived Tucker Wildlife Center offered a variety of hummingbirds, including the Black-chinned male shown below. It's also known as a haven for Band-tailed Pigeons, California Thrashers (such beautiful songs), Oak Titmice, and California Scurb Jays. Though the sky was cloudy all morning, my photos of the Band-tailed Pigeons had nearly white backgrounds. Just for fun, I opened one in Photoshop and imported a visible, cloudy sky. What do you think? On my return to the coast, I dropped by the Urban Forest in Huntington Beach (part of the Huntington Central Park complex...a great birding spot) in search of a Black-throated Sparrow, which normally prefers the deserts and scrublands. As you will see below, this very attractive sparrow has been hanging around the Urban Forest among trees and bushes. Though seen previously here in the SoCal coastal area, the discovery of this species always creates excitement. I was able to watch this pretty bird for a good 10 minutes before it hopped under the nearby California Sunflower where it has been residing. All taken with my Nikon D500 using a Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom, the early morning lack of light resulted in some noisy shots, but later photos were cleaner.

Yes, I knew that and pointed it out. I’m experimenting with settings and behavior to reduce noise in camera. Thanks for looking and commenting. Have a nice weekend and take some
