In 1999, North Pond was rehabilitated by the Chicago Park District and the Lincoln Park Conservancy, and renamed the North Pond Nature Sanctuary. What was once a landscape filled with Kentucky blue grass and lilac bushes soon became a thriving, natural ecosystem built around a diverse palette of native plants that provide food, shelter, and breeding habitat to local and migrating wildlife.

Extremely adept at living in human-altered areas, Canada geese have established breeding colonies in urban and cultivated habitats, which provide food and few natural predators.
The season's goslings
During the second year of their lives, Canada geese find a mate. They are monogamous, and most couples stay together all of their lives. If one dies, the other may find a new mate.
The season's goslings
As soon as the goslings hatch, they are immediately capable of walking, swimming, and finding their own food (a diet similar to the adult geese). Parents are often seen leading their goslings in a line, usually with one adult at the front, and the other at the back.

Excellent set Paul, those sure are some fuzzy little puffs of cuteness! I love the close up focus!
Rob
Thank you Jim, ashriverguy, Mike, Rob! I'm amazed at how late the various chicks are hatching this spring, after a long, cold and late warm-up in Chicago this year.
Beautifully done, Paul. Love the gosling images.
Very nice! The close ups of the goslings are great.
Very cute. Nice close-ups.
