I will be flamed but I will be short and direct.... Windows is clunky and ridden with bugs on upgrades... GUI is terrible. Throw it out the nearest window and go Apple.... Don't even bother to respond, you are woofing in the wind !

Windows 10 updated yesterday and now no matter what I do I have been unable to download new photos from a Z5. I have changed nothing and as far as I can tell all the settings are correct. Anyone else have problems after this Windows update?

Microsoft put out a warning to remove the last update on Windows 10 and Window 11. This is typical for Microsoft. I have very few things I run on Windows mostly my photo programs. I run Linux in Windows 11. Wine which allows Windows programs in Linux has gotten to the point that most programs are working. There are even Windows like distributions that look like Windows 7 and Windows 10/11. I have used Linux or Unix since 2012 and it doesn't have upgrade issues like Windows and in definitely faster.

Interesting. My images download - into Windows Photo's. They always used to download straight into CANON DPP. Photos is offering me the choice to send them to a different folder - but I can't activate it.

Windows 10 update caused a lot of problems with other programs too. I think Microsoft did this on purpose to force you into Windows 11

Why would you tell him it is ridiculous? Even Microsoft has acknowledged problems with this update and there are people recommending to wait before installing it. Not trying to start an argument but you were being unkind (and wrong).

He wasn’t responding to the update. He was responding to the guy that said dump all Windows products and go to Apple.

I have not had any issues with MS updates on 3 different systems. But I have been using Nikon transfer app since 2008 as well as the Nikon Codec. It allows you to change the file name with the copy to the destination. It is free from Nikon. It is part of the Nikon studio. Which I keep up to date but preferred processing is DXO PL4 or ON1 2022 with Affinity Photo for special edits. Hope you have been successful.

So many good answers, I think that I'll just go off on a brief rant. I've been taking pics for a long time, 35mm before digital but photography is really only a small part of my life so my knowledge of digital is somewhat primitive (and yet extensive enough to meet my needs.) I seldom if ever upgrade as what I have as I just said, "meets my needs." I'm into Field Dog Stud Book (not AKC) horseback shooting dog field trials and pursue them throughout the North East, MidWest and South. So dogs and horses take up most of my extra income to the tune of at least 10-12K/year and often more. I compete in a couple of different venues and utilize a professional dog trainer/handler in each. And as a retired college professor, I'm certainly not made of money, thus the latest and greatest photographic miracles are well beyond my reach! And you'd perhaps be surprised by how few lens I can get along with. I don't much care for WA lens but I do need one (in the 20s) to capture the crowd of people at the beginning of a brace. The 50/55 is useful for taking pics of winning dogs and theirfine for light gathering. handlers. I also carry a 70-300mm plus a 1.4 extender. That gives me over 400mm of reach which I find sufficient. And since at 90, I've stopped riding in the rain, 5.6 is usually fine for light gathering. Harry
