I maybe new to the board, but I am not new to life or photography. I believe people should not work for free or be slaves. That is just my humble opinion, take it or leave it. But here in America, including Hawaii, people are free to express their opinion it is called freedom of speech, or work for free, or be a slave to a TV station.

r1ch.., no problem .., I support free speech any time anywhere , actually I keep all 50,000 + photos of many things not just surf .., to myself except for sharing some on the Hogg and family and friends .
After all these years and having seen 99% of the surf shots posted here on the local stations not what I call very good , I decided to come out of the closet and post my shots . There are about 3 well known names over the years that post their surf shots on tv here in Hawaii most are blurred and lack proper processing ..., I thought it would be fun get my name posted on the all Island tv and have the #1 ranking on the Islands.
The boys with their $16,000 lenses on tripods sell their stuff and usually don’t post for free on tv stations .., I can’t compete with them nor drone shots nor in water surf photographers … and I don’t try to ..
As for payment .., I sell enough mostly on textured canvas and metal to satisfy the monetary thirst …
All hand held and most at 750mm equiv because of the distance to the surf brake gets me the good shots added to my style of post editing to deliver what the rest over here can’t ..
Bottom line .., I’m a slave to my camera and we’ll settle for being the most aired surf shots photographer on all Island tv.
For all those who came to me defense .., thank you ..gave me the warm and fuzzy ..😎

Yep, and that's what I'm doing... speaking freely. Yep, that is what I am doing, speaking freely, you are a troll trying to stop free speech and to stop people from voicing their opinion. Then you call people names. No you are the troll. This guy has had recognition for a long time. If he want to continue to work for free and get up on a soap box and tell everyone he works for free and even signed a contract with the TV company to do so, he can but I don't think that is a happy day. Everyone has an opinion but calling people names is what you do. Yes I agree with you.. you should shut up. (though you don't have to because you have free speech too)

Yep, everyone has one. After reading the guys response it got me thinking about human psychology and behavior. What drives people to work for rich people for free?
According to Dr. Nikon, there are people out there who have $16000 long lenses, and expensive underwater gear, expensive drones and Dr Nikon himself all working for free.. fighting to win a spot to put their picture on TV station that uses advertising to generate profit. These guy are not only working for free but spending exorbitant amount of money on gear and their time for free. It sounds like Dr Nikon won the honor of an exclusive contract to work for free for this station. Why do people do this? Here is my opinion but since I am not very eloquent in speaking, I think Steve Taylor said it best in his song, Am I in Sync?

This seems to be the driving factor of facebook and instagram. I am not positive because I don't have accounts for these platforms but that is what I have seen online and what I have heard. The other possibility, they just want a platform to boast about their pictures, new cars, houses, babies, whatever. IMHO of course :)
