It has been decades since I was there. Nice to see some things don't change! How is the work progressing on Notre Dame?

As you can see it’s coming along brick by brick, understandably after the damage that fire did. It’s mostly covered in scaffolding but you can see some smoke damage in and around the flying buttresses and the wooden beams under them. Visitors were restricted to the the front of the cathedral but any access was walled off.

We were there two years before the fire, glad we had the opportunity and sadly a lot of irreplaceable art and statues were lost. Cheers

I wonder how long it will take. I assume they'll advertise for donated artwork when it's finished.

I heard many years if not actually decades because of the extensive damage....not sure if any valuable artwork other than repros will be stored there unless its guaranteed and insured...Cheers

Cool :) I leave for a 2-week tour of France in just under 3 wks from now. A Seine cruise is an optional activity, but it may interfere with a dinner and show with wine and champagne the same night at the Moulin Rouge the night of my birthday (definitely doing THAT one). If I get a chance at some other time in Paris I might still go on one - one night the first day of the tour and two at the end. I bought some Euros for the trip from my bank to use at things like local markets/small trinkets and a credit card for everything else.

Used Euros very little like you said, small purchases. However in France, no sale is too small for a credit card.

One thing I found using credit cards in the EU, every machine required a pin except restaurants and such, especially the subway or any place else….even though it’s a credit card they still wanted a pin. What i found works best is pay by phone where you just use your phone for payment like Apple Pay, just tap your phone on the cc machine.

Euros at $1.04 the other day, a real bargain. Do watch out for pickpockets, they’re everywhere. Enjoy, gave a great and safe trip, Cheers.

I don't have a PIN for my credit card. I didn't know they used them...only ATM cards, but the one I have is from a bank that charges foreign transaction fees and my credit card has no fees (which is why I got it 6 yrs ago when I went to Israel). I'll have to call my credit card company about a PIN. Thanks for the heads-up! It took my $194 to get 165 Euros a month or two ago. As exchange rates change by the minute I figured I'd take a chance at the time.

I didn't/don't have a pin for my c-card either and I really didn't like using my debit but it worked out. When I go again I will ask my bank about a cc pin. Neither one of my bank cards charges a foreign transaction fee though. Guess things work a little different these days and I would recommend that you have your credit card linked to either Apple/Google pay based on whatever phone you use....that could be an easy fix. Cheers

I called the cc company a few minutes after reading your msg and got myself a PIN for my card. I had used this card for most of my purchases in the last six yrs and was able to get nearly 15 or 20% of the cost of the tour back when I redeemed all my accumulated points. I was also supposed to go to Switzerland right after France, but the tour company called me a few weeks ago and said it was cancelled due to not enough people signing up for it. At least I'm going to get a good chunk of change back on my card, probably next month, so I won't have to worry about paying that bill for a while :) Two weeks in France is STILL costing me a bunch of money. I'm thinking next year for my 60th birthday doing something epic, like a safari (but it would cost about 3x as much as this trip).

Congrats on getting that cc straightened out and you bet, France and traveling around the Paris area is not cheap. We prefer the Loire or Dordogne valleys much more, central and southern France is just beautiful...be safe, have a great trip, CHEERS.

That is a heck of a round robin in France, looks like a lovely trip with some fantastic stops, I know it will be enjoyable. You will be going through some beautiful countryside. We went over on a 14-day cruise Ft Lauderdale via the Azores, Portugal, France, Belgium and The Netherlands, then another 10 days in France, our 4th trip there. Enjoy and be safe.....Cheers.
