One of the few beautiful flowers that you can plant in shady areas, and an early bloomer, so always a great part of the garden (up north anyway...). Very nice photos.

Get some root tone from the garden store. You dip the cut stalks off and dip it in root tone and it promotes root growth. We used it when we cloned plants.

As she disassembles one of the flowers, DW tells a tale about a bottle of champagne, a couple of rabbits, slippers, and some other items I've forgotten. I'll have to ask when she gets home what they are, but I think it's common folklore... anybody else ever heard this story? Here's one of the remaining blooms on ours that's not dead yet. This single plant spreads out to cover about a three-foot circle. BTW, to the OP, I just checked and you're around 50 latitude and we're at 40 here, so not too far off. I add the pic so you can see the color... it's different than the one that died, but not much:

The white variety grows wild around here and are commonly referred to as "Dutchman's Britches" or Breeches Nice photography thanks for sharing.
