Is the product called "Tactile Bump Like Brail in a Tube", or is it something else ?

That's it I believe.
She passed about 15 years ago and obviously never used it again.
But it is really great stuff for making bumps that really stay put.

As others have mentioned, most modern cameras, being electronically/digitally based, do not have a mechanical cable-release female thread in their shutter release buttons. There would be no convenient means of attaching a soft release accessory button. The usual shutter release buttons that are built into most modern cameras are large enough and well shapes to enable a soft release. As long as you don't poke it, there should be no blur issues at reasonable shutter speeds or problems where the composition is pushed out of the frame wh you shoot.. Squeeze- don't poke. On modern camer, the shutter release buttON is a kind of micro-switch as opposed to old completLY mechanical cameras so there's less travel and/or pressure required.

If you require a very precise and kinda hair-trigger shutter actuation, you will need to get the feel of a new camera's release mechanism ti o to establish the correct degree of pressure and travel required to release the shutter. Some years ago, it was established that there is a 1/7 sec, human/camer refresh lag between the time you see the action and expression you want to capture and the time the image appears on the film or sensor. This was pertaining to most mechanical SLR cameras. Perhaps, nowadays, especially with mirrorless cameras that lag has been reduced.

If anyone has difficulty holding the camera steady during the releasing action or in holding the camera steady in general, an accessory bracket or grip and an electronic cable shutter realeasw my be a good solution.

Thanks all for your interesting and informative comments. (The information about the “stick-on shutter release button” might be of some help to fellow Hogger – CPO).

CPO here’s a link that might be of some interest to you that was submitted in this post:

Thank you. I'll go thru the links and see if anything trips my trigger so to speak. Also, the felt stick-ons sound interesting. I appreciate it!

I have just started using the stick on felt "dots". So far they are working very well. They have stayed in place through an entire days' shooting, which pleasantly surprised me. It looks like they are just what I need, tactile enough that I can find the shutter and BBF buttons with my finger tips without having to take my eye from the viewfinder!

No. I use a D850 and a D500 neither of which uses the cable release shutter button. But I think I will try to glue, maybe not super glue, one onto the top of the shutter button and see how it works! Thanks for the link!

I used a spot of glue on a button and it ran down the side and ruined my shutter button. cost me $400 to have it replaced. Lesson learned never use glue around your camera.

Hi all,
Generally, I do a little research before I post a question about photo equipment to the UHH forum. This is more like a survey, and apologies in advance if this topic seems mundane. So here goes: Does anyone use a soft (shutter) release button? This is that inexpensive accessory that screws into the shutter release button on most cameras. They look nice and personalized, but since they don’t fit flush to the camera body, and have a wee bit of wobble, they raise a concern. I’m curious if these buttons will or can cause any long term damage to the camera mechanism. (Full disclosure; I have one or two, but I’ve never used them since my “well trained” index finger is so familiar with the feel of my camera buttons already...no real need)

I use them on my film cameras. They work well.
