The amazing thing about astronomy is the vast amount of information we can get from the analysis of light waves from far infra-red to cosmic rays. Other than very large objects like galaxies, the only thing we can see are stars which are just points of light with varying spectra. All the information discussed here, distance, speeds, movements through space are obtained from the analysis of light. We are just about to start getting actual images other than points of light from the new JWST in final prep steps right now. Exciting times we're living in.
