During a recent trip to the Sandhills of Nebraska I took several pictures of the bird shown here. I attempted to crop close enough to show the legs as it may well be a yellowlegs, but I think it might be a juvenile long-billed Dowitcher. Any ID help would be appreciated! Thanks!
No it's a Greater Yellowlegs

Thanks for the ID Curmudgeon! I found itβs legs were more yellow in another photo!
I have picked up about 20 new birds with photos in one day in the Sandhills!

Thanks for looking joecichjr!
You should look into the Merlin App for your phone. It will identify ANYTHING. Well, maybe not an old Chevy, but any bird. Has helped me out on many occasions.

Great suggestion kmpankopf! I use it, but sometimes it doesnβt always work with pictures. This bird was one of those birds that the picture didnβt give me the confidence that it was right.

Yep, and most of the time it's right
In fairness, some of my pictures lacked some defining features such as color of legs. Garbage in and reduced identifications out! π₯΄
Merlin can be used in different ways. I will often have a photo of a bird that I need to ID on my computer. I'll open Merlin on my phone, take a photo of the computer screen, and then proceed with Merlin's questions about place and date where/when the photo was taken. I just did that with your image and Merlin's top three ID suggestions were Lesser yellowlegs, Greater yellowlegs, and Solitary sandpiper.
I agree that this image looks most like a Greater yellowlegs to me.
