There are three photos in this thread. The first one is the original (with some slight LR adjustments.) I did not like the white speck that was the moon, so I used PS to add a moon that I shot a few years ago on Xmas eve. The second is the shot of the moon that was added to the third shot.
Thoughts?

A very nice shot of Venice (I assume!)
I find the moon (old and new) a distraction. I think I would crop to remove the moon altogether and let the beauty of the buildings and canal be the entire scene.

Your second moon shot is an easy to be determined fake. Two different sun angles and two different color temperatures. The first shot is much better and preferably in my opinion. If you are going to substitute a moon, match the sun angles and color temperatures better such that it becomes hard to determine if it was added. Also, do not make the moon too overly big compared to the rest of the image. That can sometimes easily distract from the image.

More thoughts. Although I understand srt101fan's comments and also love Venice shots, try dropping the moon even closer to the roof tops and cropping off more of the image at the top. And see if you have another moon image that is more full moon for the substitution. Let us know (or show us) how your final image comes out.
The colouring of your added moon is not right. Try making it more yellow like the first shot.
To all. First attempt at this. Thanks ha is for the thoughts and suggestions. I’ll get to it this weekend.

I kinda like the 1st one.
I prefer the original. The second moon shot is not a bad attempt at adding the moon but I think it could be smaller and not quite so bright.

The size and clarity of the moon is somewhat dependent on other reference points, such as horizon. If accuracy of view is the intent, the size of the moon does become noticeable. I have found the "dime" method of judging sizes of the moon to be very helpful. Hold a dime at arm's length. This will give an approximation of what the moon will comparatively be seen as.

As noted above, light source is also crucial for accuracy.
I have photographed the moon in different situations to get a feeling as to what to look for. It may serve you to visit your other shots of the moon to see what is presented in relative sizes and looks. You may even have a moon that you can "lift and place" for the more accurate view.
I have seen depictions in which I thought we would be colliding shortly with the moon, due to gravitational pull.

I agree, my personal reaction is that the moon adds nothing to a very nice scene.
IMHO the first picture is easily the best, and is a good shot. The moon adds to rather than distracts.
I think we should start calling SOOCs "trupics"

A new word. I might adopt it.
I prefer the original; I find the "new" moon distracting. Others have given good advice as to how to make it look more natural, but to me, if you make it more natural, you'll be pretty much back to what the original looks like anyway. Someone suggested cropping out the top of the photo, including the moon, to focus attention more on the city, and that would also make a lovely photo also. That said, had I been in Venice on that beautiful evening, I'd want to include the full moon rising over the city.
