The critique section has been a bit quiet lately. Here is a shot I took a while ago. I am on the fence on this one.
You can download, re-edit or what ever you like. One thing for sure, the edge needs to be refined where the bridge meets the sky. Im working on that.

Yes, agree, Beautiful symmetry, and Black and White!. When first looking, it gave me a sense of falling backward as tho I was there tilting back to look up. Them minds/eye plays tricks... like the rugs with the optical illusion of a deep hole in the middle, but this is the opposite.

I too looked at this image and got the feeling that the bridge was falling over. I understand the limits of the angle that you shot it at. Did you swap out the sky. I see a white line along the bridge?
I think B/W was the way to go on this shot.

My ONLY tiny nit is that the photo is centered left to right. I think just a bit one way or the other would make for a better photograph. Maybe not. I do see your point in centering but that part just isn't working for me. It seems to work for others so far though.

On the good points, the photo is sharp as a tack, black and white which scores points with me if done well and yours is done very well indeed. The photo also has a lot of just plain interest value. It is an interesting photograph and well worth leaning back a bit to take a look. Nice.

That looks like a bridge rail, not an artifact.

Perhaps you’re right. But it does go around the two “globes” on the bridge. That is why I asked.

It might be. I never made it to the top of the bridge to check it out.

Hip!

Ed Lee again! Very nice B&W. I think when using "selections" to darken the sky, you can use the "feather" feature in the drop-down menu and move a few pixels closer to the railing to eliminate the white halos where the sky meets the bridge. The sky is too dark compared to the sky areas behind the central column and the right bit of sky. The horizon is minimally lower on the right.

Be well! Ed

Did you over sharpen? This could be the cause. Does not look like any rail to me.

I don’t think so. I did sky select in LR to get some detail. But usual sharpening. I can try to see what happens if I reduce it.

dont really like the sky across the top of the bridge. I cropped it right at the top rail, below the white line. Now I have the sky that you see below the bridge and nothing over the top. I think that made a compositional improvement, just my opinion. I really like the subject matter and I like the B/W treatment. I think overall a good picture
