Nice edit. The detail looks great up close from your web page. What program are you using to paint?

Thank You very much !!! Forgive me for the lengthy response, but I didn't want to just say Photoshop.

Not lot long ago I spent an afternoon with a close friend of mine, an artist, reviewing many of the images I've processed in Photoshop. In part, I wanted to know what was realistic about the effect, what wasn't, and what would make the effect more realistic. The first question was concerning the oil paint filter in photoshop, and her response basically was that the image was obviously digital and not done by an artist. It was helpful to me to know what an actual artist thought of the images.

In answer to your question, thank you for asking, this was done in photoshop. I masked the subject in order to do some things only to the subject, and also used a mask of the background to do others to it, as well as the entire image receiving some of the processing, and used layer masks of either to allow me to modify them as I wanted.

In this image, I've used a horizontal and vertical smudge each with a mosaic. Paint daubs, poster edges with emboss , some dark and light brushes, 2 background textures using blend if gray and adjusted the opacity.

The detail in the image you see is achieved using 2 different copies of the original image, using the luminosity blending mode on the first at a low opacity, and the next if I recall on this one blended as soft light again adjusting the opacity, with these 2 layers placed above the effect. When I've completed all the adjustments, layer stamp and then to camera raw for some tonal and color tweaking. Once back in photoshop back to filter gallery with a canvas texture applied. Thanks Again !!!
