[quote=MDI Mainer]Have a great trip, have you been to Campobello Island?

No, and at the time we will be there the house is not going to be open so we will look for things on the US side of the bridge, only have 2 nights up there , checking it out.

When you can it's worth the trip -- either by two quaint car ferries from New Brunswick or by road from Lubec. Boarder crossing is now somewhat of a hassle, but the scenery is beautiful. When we visited we were staying at the Algonquin in St. Andrews (the hotel and town both stunning destinations too), so were planning to take the ferries both ways. But the little one broke while we were on the island, so had to drive into the US and then back into Canada again!

If we like Lubec perhaps next year, did not get the time slot we wanted this year as too many doctor and other appointments in June.

You've probably seen this website, but other potential visitors to Maine perhaps not.

Can you suggest the best place(s) to see a moose near (within an hour or two) Acadia, and to get a good lobster roll? We’ll be up the week of May 15 and these are on my wife’s list of ‘to-dos’ on this trip. Thanks.

We are going to be up there about the same time, last year we went to Greenville, saw a moose, bit of a run from Acadia though, Lobster Roll, my wife loves them, Reds Eats, 41 Water St, Wiscasset, ME 04578, also a lot of other places, Do Not Miss "Maine Diner" in Wells, both Lobster Rolls and Lobster Quiche, lobster for breakfast In Bar Harbor my favorite is Thirsty Whale (got the tee shirt), Bob.

For reliable moose sightings you need to go some distance inland and north, probably this is closest to Bar Harbor. If time is limited I'd definitely recommend a tour or guide. Here's one provider:

I believe that Northeast White Water was the one we used last year, we went in the fall, did see a moose, there are no guarantees, the road into Greenville goes right past Northeast white water, restaurants etc are in Greenville as is Moosehead Lake and The Katahadin ship. When we were there restaurants were kind of scarce, Kelly's Landing was very good, ate ther twice, BTW picture of the restaurant on my sites, only one breakfast place was open, so I would plan accordingly. If you want more details just ask, we did enjoy the trip, Bob.

The Mooshead Region has its own visitor site and the State Tourism office has an initiative to promote other, under-visited parts of the state, as does the Tourism Association.

And now for a change of pace the least visited National Park (a tiny gem which I didn't know about at all).

For any members interested in a less crowded region in Maine, there's the Kennebeck Valley.

Like most coastal areas, the weather on MDI is heavily influenced by the interplay of ocean and land. Fog is most common in June, July and August, but often burns off by mid-afternoon. Fall days are often clear, though fog is always a possibility.

In any event the fog can be an asset for making memorable images any time of year as this journalist, Greg Iacurci, has shown.

Here are two short articles on making images in inclement weather, useful since conditions on the coast are always variable:
