Part 107 Schools

I just couldn't resist the special that BandH just had, and succumbed to a Mavic Air 2. I have been having some serious discussions about getting a drone for my work for a while now, so it was only a *little bit* of an impulse purchase.

It's more than just a GAS attack, as I foresee its use where I now use a telephoto zoom. And frequently have to crop a lot. While I am not terribly dissatisfied with the results on my photos, I'm a little bit of a pixel-peeper, and I feel I am losing a bit of resolution. The ultimate goal is a press-printed book, so I think that the 12mp resolution that *I* think the camera on the Air 2 really has is not a limiting factor - and will also with some care and work in post give me a decent 11x14 photo print - perhaps even larger.

So, after all that, here comes my question: Do any of you have recommendations for a school that will train this book-averse old fart how to pass the 107?

TIA
Tony

I have a very strong recommendation because I just completed my 107. I used Pilot Institute.

You're guaranteed to pass the test or you'll get the test cost of $175 back plus a full refund for the course itself. They say that 99.8% pass.

The course is organized and complete. Some of the FAA required subjects are challenging and, unfortunately, seem to have little to do with actual drone operation. It seems that airplane pilots wrote the test questions!

The course is structured so that you can repeat parts as necessary. They answer questions quickly. There is a targeted Facebook "group" forum of students and instructors helping each other. The accolades for the course in that group are all positive.

There is even a weekly drone news show that I look forward to each week.

The only downside for me was that my first impression of the instructor was that he is a bit geeky and nerdy. But, he sure knows his stuff and understands teaching to build knowledge. After watching him for 15+ hours and exchanging a few emails, I now like him a lot!

Second endorsement for Pilot Institute. They also have free courses on select drones.

The Part 107 training is not how to fly a drone training, but rather unmanned small aircraft safety training, quadcopters and fixed-wing RC craft.

Bill, JR - Thanks for your responses.

I checked them out, and it looks like Pilot Inst. is where I'm going to go.

Let us/me know how it goes! I've been a manned airplane pilot a long time. If you get stuck on something go to PilotInstutues Facebook group. If that does not work, ask here and I'll give it a try.
