Use of black reflectors... Suggestion for tutorial
Seldom seen in studios, black reflectors are often ignored as accessories.

I seem to recall something about a "foamie black thingy"
I didn't really appreciate black reflectors until I started shooting outdoor models. When you are in a field or wood there is green light coming from every direction. And green is probably the least flattering color of light for portraits.
The black reflectors are great for creating shadows, contrast, and drama in portraits. A super useful tool - white on one side and black on the other side.

They come in any form" black flags, cards, newfangled collapsible spring-loaded reflectors with hoop-skirt-like frames, b; lac cloth on umbrella frames. lens vignetters and more. There is also GOBOS, short for go-betweens! They can simply be used to shade an area, prevent stray light from striking your lens when a lens shade won't completely address. You can have an off-camer flash, think of an off-light barndoor!
There is an entire lighting technique called SUBTRACTIVE LIGHTING. If you understand the technique, you can apply it with your GOBOS or and especaill situation in natural ligh where you can shape existing light as per your requirements. You can come to this technique wot additive lighting and set up an outdoor "studio" with no artificial ligt sources.
When I am outside, shoot flowers, etc I have my little 2-sided reflector/gobo. I sometimes use the black side more than the silver side to get the effect I want. It s very handy on an overcast day or in the shade where the light may be rather flat.
Work in progress!

I don't know if I agree with it being ignored. V Flat World is a fairly new company boasting 50,000 photograper sales. Youtube tutorials frequently include them for negative fill.
Black flags and V-Flats(double sided). Common studio equipment.
