I got out my old p&s the other day, a Kodak Z1285 10mp job. I've had it since around early 2008, but it's always took good shots (for a p&s). So I get the SD card out and pop it in the computer and there's shots on there from 2010 and maybe before.. Have you ever went looking through you old pictures and thought "what the heck was I aiming for??" cuz I had several of those moments looking at the old stuff. LOL!
There have been some good threads elsewhere on the subject of digital v film. I think digital has been responsible for quite a few "What the heck?" moments.
I often leave photos I have shot for several months before going through them so I can see them with an open mind

This is interesting. I keep photos that tell a story or bring back a moment in time, some just offer information like a shot of a new toy. If I only kept shots that were technically good photographs I could get by with about oh I dont know maybe 1K of memory.

I do that now and don't have to wait.

R.G.-I never REALLY got the opportunity to shoot with film (GASP!). They offered a photography class when I was in high school, but I was too focused on math, science, and music to take it. I wish I had though, I'd love to have had the chance to work in a dark room and see what REALLY goes into making pictures. The only film cameras I ever used were the super cheap 110 cameras I got for Christmas to use on vacation, and I did get a really really cheap 35mm camera once that only lasted about a year.. You know, the kind you get at Walmart hanging on the shelf in the plastic you can't hardly get open..? Yeah, those... So digital is all I've ever known... But I can definitely see how it would lead to those moments, because we (especially the inexperienced) tend to snap EVERYTHING with digital, and we wouldn't have done that with film cause it just costed way too much (which is why a lot my 110 and 35mm pictures never got developed, mom and dad couldn't afford it a lot of the time..)
Pepper-I keep a lot to tell a story too. My daughter, who will be 2 in January, was born 3 months early. When she was born, I couldn't find this old Kodak, so I bought another one. I didn't get it until she was about a week old so until then we used our cell phones. I had gotten an offer from kodakgallery.com for 40% off a photo book, and I took her pictures, picked out the best ones, arranged them in order from the time she was born until she was 6 weeks old, and had the book printed. The book was supposed to be her time in the hospital-she was getting ready to come home at 6 weeks old, but had a set back and had to stay another 2 weeks. Right now I don't think anything I have taken actually qualifies as a "good" photograph, but I have some great snapshots ;)It's a work in progress..

Very nice, for many of us it's those kinds of events that bring the real value to the photography we do.

If it captured a moment in time for you, it's "Mission Accomplished".
There are some old family slides that I'm going to hunt down and turn into prints. The memories that can be captured like that are priceless.

One advantage of film is that the amount of time between shooting and viewing gave us a more open mind.
