Hey HOG'S. How are you all today. Ok I had submitted some photos to MaxPreps.com. Jim the photo editor got on me (again). Told me to clean up comp, color, and framing. He also told me especially shooting basketball which he said is a vertical sport to shoot vertical. He said he shoots almost entirely vertical for basketball. So I went to shoot a JV and Varsity girl's basketball game. I have only shot a few vertical shots with my cameras (maybe 50) over all these years. Was tough holding camera for me, my hands don't do well anymore with type 2 Diabetes don't hold things very well. Please look at these from JV game. I have already sent to Max to see if they will accept. I want all your opinions though. I will post some of the Varsity game when done with post work. It is HELL to be in your 70's. I shouldn't even tell everyone but here goes. I went over at start of third quarter to change lens to my 85mm to see how it would be shooting vertical and discovered that my other batteries were still at home in my chargers. What a dumbass. Sorry! Luck had it that I still had some power left in the one I had so I could still shoot some of the Varsity game. Not that it matters but somehow I had hit some buttons and my 80-200mm wasn't focusing really well. Really screwed up a lot of shots. Enough of this. Please look at the photos and be honest of what you think. Shooting Bball vertical is going to take a while. Thanks and BE SAFE!!

If you’re going to do much vertical shooting, a battery grip with a second shutter release button and other controls oriented for vertical shooting is a big help and makes holding the camera much easier.

I do have a battery grip on both my cameras. It is just hard for me to hold and push buttons, like I said hands don't work like they used too. I am working on it though and hope with practice it will work out. Thanks TriX BE SAFE!!

Remember, everyone has an off day - the players, the coaches, the refs and even the photographers! Take some solace in knowing you are not alone, and be ready for the next one!

Hi Tom:
Rick has mirrored my thoughts exactly.
Everyone has a bad shoot. Myself included, maybe I forgot to re-set the camera, format the memory cards which is leaving the prior nights game on the cards, dummy me. I shot a baseball game last year with photo image set to vivid. Jim emails me and says you better re-do the gallery. I did that and had a great sales day. So don't beat yourself up, shit happens. Just learn from your mistakes.
Oh one other lesson learned. I once went to a game forgetting my NIAA credentials and the guy just wouldn't let me in no matter what I said.
Have a good day my friend.

Yes we all have those days. I have done some real dumb things but hope I have learned from them all. I am going to really work hard at my photos this spring and try and be aware of all I need to do for a great shot every time. Our weather is so cold right now. Hoping for big warm up before spring sports start. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Shooting softball today. Weather at game time should be around 65 with no wind. I am sure I will be a little rusty.
Saturday baseball at 10:00 am. Yeah!!
