My main interests in photography are landscapes and textures/patterns. Thus, when I was asked to shoot promotional photos for a one-man show based on the Biblical Book of Mark, I agreed. Mostly because there was a time constraint, and they hadn't gotten anyone to shoot advertising images.
When I arrived, I found that both my Flashpoint light and my Speedlight both were on the fritz. So, we had to make do with available light. Good thing it was on the stage where the show will be performed, and has a variety of stage lighting. I wasn't sure what was wanted, so the model/actor and I had to work together on poses, mood and staging. Not being adept at portrait photography, I am glad the subject was full of ideas and was photogenic.
After an hour and a half, I came away with 112 photos, and said I'd have some proofs available today. I put together 34 possibles, and he responded with the one he wanted to make into the show poster. Here then, for your consideration, is the proof.
Excellent shot. Show posters I have seen for a long time are typically in portrait orientation - like Magazine covers used to be when there were magazines of note.
Great photo. Lesson learned, test your stuff before leaving for a session. Next, if possible, check out the setting prior to agreeing to the shoot. Thirdly, learn to wing it. In this case, "you know, the lighting on stage is really superb. I'd rather use that then strobes".

Please don’t hate me, but his left eye is distracting to me. I like the advice I read somewhere to look where your nose is pointing or at the camera.
Makes me think something that is a bit of a surprise is coming from his right/our left.

It seems he is transfixed on the horizontal flame coming from the candle. Was it windy indoors?

It is based on the Bible and in both religion and fantasy/magical stories spirits often cause flames and things to act in strange ways.

Is time travel involved, also? The model of a clipper ship seems out of place.

Nice photo.
As someone who are always making posters, I would take the photo with consideration of how I was going to use it on the poster itself. Sort of planning well ahead.

No hate here. This was the shot
he chose, not me.

We didn't get into the details of the show more than it isn't a form a Max McLean recitation of Scripture. My sense, based on his clothing choices, is a modern setting re-enactment of the Book of Mark. He said the show runs about 90 minutes without intermission.
