some of my photos from around the columbia river gorge during vacation in september.

fuji 50r and 23mm, 100-200mm and 45-100mm

downstream from a waterfall

multnomah falls. it was under construction while i was there, so i didn't get the chance to explore. but the closed trail meant i got to take photos without worrying about people in my shots.

you can really see the black construction tarp over the bridge in this photo.

horsetail falls.

The falls and the bridge are most excellent subjects, and you captured them beautifully. My only suggestion might be to consider cropping or establishing the subjects so as not to necessarily center the main focal points in each image. Just an idea to try...keep posting your good work!

BTW: Welcome to the UHH forum! Glad you're here!

thanks tommy. i use the rule of thirds a lot when composing. but i'm drawn more to symmetrical, centered scenes. especially when i get a nice stormy sky or fog to give it more of a dramatic or minimalist look. those types of comps are also some of my best sellers. i generally shoot the scene multiple ways, and usually end up picking the symmetrical view.

having said that, i wish i'd worked out a different comp. at horsetail falls. i visited multnomah near sunset (you can see the last of the golden light on the top of the frame in the first photo), and then visited horsetail falls after sunset. i ended up rushing through that since i was staying in the dalles and hadn't gotten dinner yet. something to look forward to on my next visit.

Your second shot is quite a stunner. I like the foreground and surrounding foliage and would consider boosting its presence were it mine. Lightroom’s luminance sliders should do the trick quite nicely.
