Playing with crops

I submitted this photo in 8x10 crop in a different section on UHH - see below. I started playing with this image a bit more because I was invited to display the image at a local camera store here in San Diego. This version is in an 16:10 aspect ratio and I have to say I like this much better. What do you think?

I like the 16:10 ratio better too. But that is a strange ratio sort of. Was not your original camera ratio 3:2? What would naturally full frame yield 12:8 or 15:10. Thus a 12x8 inch or 15x10 inch print for framing. A 16x10 " would certainly require a custom cut mat. Is 16:10 the ratio of your wide field monitor? Nice photo to begin with.

i like the tighter crop. I think that it gives you enough of the environment and the detail is easier to see. Good luck with your choice

If your final print is going to be 8x11 what is the best crop?

To get a 8×11 inch print you would have to crop to that size from say a 8x12 " minimum size or larger with more removed. 11:8 is not a camera sensor format ratio as far as I know. Note 11 is a prime number as well.

Finally, after all these years. I have found a use for knowing prime numbers. It is so.
, I can tell someone that a number is a prime number. I'm pretty sure I want to get my ass kicked, when I tell someone at Kroger's that their bill is a prime number. Or. "It's your son's birthday? That's a prime number ya know? I really hate useless knowledge that doesn't help anyone, besides yourself... satisfying the need to think you are smarter than somebody else.

I was addressing <philo> anyway to answer his question. How did you get in the mix? You have not noticed that a good portion of the Members of the UHH are retired engineers of various types. Some of them are way more technical with details and trivial points than I could ever be. I'm not an engineer. I just remember some basic math and number theory. No one else even attempted to answer his question. Like everything else on the UHH, you can ignore anything that bothers you. You seem to be extra grumpy about prime numbers here. Please pick on someone else.

P.S. If read you correctly in your discussions about the seriousness of COVID-19 and wearing masks, I agree with you.

I like the 16x10 much better, although the original crop was okay. What if you just cropped it and cut the mat to fit into your frame?

Our guidelines is to mat it in 20x16 mat for display so I'm thinking 15" on the long edge that would give me a nice 2.5" boarder on the right and left. Actually will probably end up being an 11x16 in the end.

That's correct - I cropped it that way in Lightroom. The first one is an 8x10 crop of the original image taken on my R5 (full frame). As far as matting goes I do my own matting so that's really not an issue.
