Beauty and excitement in the microscopic world are often found in the least attractive places. I decided to consolidate my two fresh water stagnant pools and added the smaller one into the larger one. After I poured the contents of the smaller pool, there was stuff left in the corners of the small tank--those became my sample for this. It was full of bacteria evidently feeding on the bits of disintegrated leaf and plant matter that flowed through the final drips of water. There was a colony of protozoans as well.

Don, I watched it all. When I was 8, I was given one of those mass-marketed, mass-produced microscopes. My dad and I would sit together for hours, testing water samples, insect parts and and making slides to keep in my slides box. I loved it. Of course, your microscope is much better than mine, but my fascination is still with me. Thank you for the tour of the creatures we seldom get the chance to see.

you are welcome. I'm giving a good stereo microscope to my granddaughter for her 10th birthday.

I think so. She has one of those cheapy toy microscopes and you really can see very little with it. The stereo scope provides a bright and clear 3-D view of things.
