My Daughter and Son-in-Law overheard me talking to my wife about wanting to buy a remote weather station for our house. They surprised me at Christmas with a new weather station. They bought it at a local big box store.

I had mounted it on the house for the first couple of days to see how it worked with the wireless and discovered it needed to be a little more in the open to obtain accurate wind exposure.

Two days ago I poured a concrete base with a redwood 4x4 post and let it cure 2 days.

Today I affixed a base for the instruments to sit on, painted and attached the instruments. Voila... great real time weather via wireless on a remote display and to my cell phone. Pretty slick.

By the photos this evening you can see the weather coming in and the drop in barometric pressure. No wind today.

Thanks to my Daughter and her husband! No weather surprises. LOL

Nice gift. Good work on mounting the weather station.

We recently upgraded our weather station to an Ambient model from Accurite so that we could take advantage of iMac compatibility. Our home in Merlin has very local differences to even the Grants Pass weather some 15 miles from here. Indeed, differences to properties even a mile away. I put it down to the local topography.
This time the console display is situated in the living room where it is viewed frequently throughout the day!

Paul I think I may move the display to my living room after we do some remodeling. It currently resides in my office.

How tall is your post? Higher is better for accurate wind speed.

RSWorden: It is a 4"x 4" x 8' tall redwood post (16" in concrete) and it is elevated an additional 3' off the ground to 9'. It does seem to record consistently with what I am seeing reported from NWS for our area.

Good move! I can’t think why I didn’t do that with my Accurite.

Plus, one has to have it clear of the wind ‘shadow’ from trees nearby to get accurate speed and direction measurements. Something that here in Merlin it is very difficult to do.

Impossible to shield from wind shadow where I live in the forest.

I live in the center of Simi Valley. The name Simi is native American which translated means "Valley of the wind". So the city founders named it Valley of the Wind Valley. 🤣🤣🤣. It is always windy here and the valley is literally like a wind tunnel. We frequently have 60-70 mph winds. There are very few wind shadows here. I get vortices in my back yard to the point it blows the spit out of my mouth. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙄

Winds out of the west on the shore of lake Ontario are very intense. Depending on season, calm, to roaring waves 10 to 12 foot caused by 30 to 50 mile an hour winds.
The lake almost never freezes solid so we get lake Effect Snow from it.
With the cold weather expected the snow accumulation could be significant.

And to think, I put on a sweater if the temperature drops to a brisk 65 degrees! Burrrr so cold here! 🤣🤣🤣

Wow! Presumably there are wind generators in the area?
