I never could understand Lowering a car as low as the silver 51 Ford even when I was in my teens , in those days your options for lowering were not conducive to a smooth ride, they jarred your teeth with every little bump and you couldn't make it over a speed bump.
Today is another story, with air suspension and hydraulics you can have both.

49 to 51 Hudsons are called step downs because the floors were lower than the sills such that you had to step down to enter them
