Carlson and Dr. Siegal used a recent small study for their tongue-in-cheek discussion:
Sildenafil for treating patients with C****-** and perfusion mismatch: a pilot randomized trial
https://ccforum.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13054-021-03885-yAfter all, anything "Viagra" is automatically funny, right?
In simple terms, our lungs work by sending blood through areas of the lung that are well aerated, where carbon dioxide can be exchanged for oxygen. The oxygenated blood then flows to the rest of the body.
C****-** interestingly causes respiratory failure by redirecting blood flow away from the areas that are well aerated. The blood does not become oxygenated, so oxygen is not delivered to the rest of the body.
This condition called
ventilation-perfusion mismatch.
So in C***d, the problem is often
not a lack of oxygen. This explains why ventilators, which increase the amount of oxygen in the lungs, often failed to improve oxygenation in C***d patients, and actually often made things worse.
Viagra has the ability to improve lung blood flow back to the well-aerated portions of the lung. Hence the potential for use in
selected patients with C***d.
Note that Viagra is commonly used to treat pulmonary hypertension, and has been found useful in the treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon and altitude sickness as well.
Reporting something once isn't exactly 'pushing it'. Examine CNN, MSNBC, et al. to understand how to 'push' drive your agenda in a partisan fashion.

As a victim of pulmonary hypertension and user of Sildenafil I salute your astute presentation. Thank you.

Thanks Wuligal, I appreciate it.
I'm reminded of the Enzyte commercials.
