This is the first post I've seen of yours and after reading cany's post (which I agree whole heartedly with) I looked at most of your previous posts. And I have to say wow. You are good. I really enjoy your posts and articles. Your photography is outstanding.

I live in Clovis and have spent a lot of time along 88 and 49... But was not into photography back then (30-40 years ago). I do like the OLD buildings in the area.

Thanks for posting. I won't miss anymore, I just added u to my buddy list.

Wow, thank you so much, Frank! Clovis is about 3.5 hours from here-- maybe now that you have time and are into photography you should make a trip up here, at least through hwy. 88 or up the Sonora Pass

I like 49 better than 88. I had a photography friend from Sacramento that did a lot of photo shoots there and I own at that big red brick place on the north side of the road.

Jackson, California... shot from the vista point on Hwy 88. Taken with my Sony RX1R.

Jackson is located in the heart of the Motherlode, and was a bustling area for gold mining during the California Gold Rush days during the mid-1800's. Many relics from that era are available to view in the areas' historical museums. The Mi-Wuk Indians also flourished here-- in fact, there are several grinding rocks on my property and I have found three arrowheads (so far) just walking the field. Though all of the gold mines have been shut down years ago, there are many folks who still pan for gold in our many rivers and streams.

The view is looking due east. The prominent peak is Butte mountain which dominates the Jackson area. Beyond that, you can see the mighty Sierra Nevada mountain range in the distance-- which extend 400 miles north to south and is 70 miles wide. Highest peak is Mt. Whitney at 14,505 ft.

Great shot! Grew up in Sacramento. Went to and through Jackson on our way to hunt quail near Ione. Thanx for sharing.

Thanks! Yep... Ione is more "flatland" territory-- but is adjacent to Jackson.

Yes, there are a few pretty cool caves in the area... it's always been on my to-do list, but so far have never gone. One day!

In 1969 I believe a cave collapsed on some teenagers partying inside. We had just left; we did hear the roar but saw no dust. Was about 2:30 AM!
