Thought it should but not sure

Someday, if we live long enough, Kenko MIGHT make a "universal" extender for Nikon Z OEM extenders are optimised for their long, fast, expensive lenses - and deservedly so ......

The Z teleconverters only fit two lenses at this time, the Z 70mm-200mm f2.8 and the 100mm-400mm f4.5-5.6. Being a teleconverter for Z lenses, they of course fit all Z cameras, but the end that connects to the lens only fits the two lens I just listed. If you attempt to connect the teleconverter to other lenses, the teleconverter may damage the other lens,es giving you an expensive paperweight.

For now, the only Nikon Z lens that will work with the 1.4 Z Nikon teleconverter is the Nikon Z 70-200 2.8. Nikon has stated that this teleconverter will work with future Nikon Z lenses.
And, if the Z70-200 2.8 is mounted on the Z50 camera, the 1.4 Z Nikon teleconverter will work.

Both Nikon Z teleconverters work perfectly as advertised: They magnify the image of any (compatible) lens in front of them by 1.4x or 2.0x in exchange for a 1 or 2 stop slower focal ratio. They translate all EXIF data and retain every function of the mounted lens. In combination with the Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S (the only compatible lens at the time of testing) they are much cheaper, smaller, and lighter than getting an additional hypothetical Z 98-280mm f4.0 VR S or Z 140-400mm f5.6 VR S lens and they give the mounted lens an extra boost in close-up capabilities. Optically the results from using the Z TC-1.4x are so good that you need not bother to take the teleconverter off when shooting at focal lengths of 200mm or shorter - which is important when you don't have time to swap the TC out during shooting. If you own or think of buying the Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR the new Z TC 1.4x is a recommended accessory. Regarding the Z TC 2.0x I'd rather wait: You'd probably need an excellent telephoto prime lens
to see the full potential which the TC-2.0x can deliver!
Again, the OP did not specify what Z lenses he had. But, as of this writing, the only compatible lens at this time is the Z 70-200 2.8 VR S. If he has another lens, it may not work.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end. Even you oh king of Canon.

The Nikon site, today, shows only a 70 - 200 mm lens compatible with the Z teleconverters.

NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S
$2,599.95

The Nikon site hasn't been updated, the 100-400mm also works with the teleconverters.

No. The Z TCs only work with the 70-200 and 100-400 currently, I presume they'll work with most of the S lens going forward but because it sticks into the back of the lens whether it works or not becomes a design and engineering issue.

That is correct, but the 70-200 Z lens will fit also on a Z50!

The design of these teleconverters have an element that recesses down into the lens. If there is not room due to a lens element too close to the mount then it won't attach and you risk damaging the lens if you try. They are only recommended to be used with the z70-200 and the z100-400 so far.

Look at this link and you will see what Bob is describing.

As of today, there are only two lenses where the new Z tcs can be used: Nikon Z 70-200 f2.8 S and the Nikon Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 S lens .

Are you saying you have used the 1.4 Z TC on the kit lenses 16-50mm and/or 50-250mm? According to Nikon this is not possible.

Actually the original poster did indicate what camera and lenses he is using:

Nikon Z50 is sold in kit with 16-50mm DX lens...

... or in two-lens kit with both 16-50mm DX and 50-250mm DX lenses.

It's pretty safe bet the original poster is referring to one or both of those lenses.

Neither of which appears to be compatible with the Z TC-1.4X or TC-2X.

While the teleconverters can be used with any Z-series camera, among currently available [/i]lenses[/i] both teleconverters are only compatible with Z 70-200mm f/2.8 and Z 100-400mm, according to B&H Photo. The Nikon USA website only lists the 70-200mm... but that is probably because the 100-400mm is relatively new and the site hasn't been updated yet.

If you look a the teleconverters you'll see why...

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1578222-REG/nikon_z_teleconverter_1_4x.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1578223-REG/nikon_z_teleconverter_2x.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Both TCs have protruding front elements that need to fit inside the rear barrel of any lens they're used upon. That rules out the DX kit lenses.

This has nothing to do with the camera - the teleconverters can be mounted to any Z mount camera - that said there are currently only two lenses in the line up that accept the teleconverter. They are:

1) 70-200 2.8 VR S
2) 100-400 4.5-5.6 VR S

There are no other lenses yet that work with them. The upcoming 400mm 2.8 probably will not as it has a built in 1.4 teleconverter already.

My guess is that the other 400mm (the PF version) will accept the teleconverter as will the upcoming 800mm 6.3 and the 600mm (unknown F stop). I would also guess that the 200-600 would accept the teleconverters as well but this is more speculation than the other lenses that most certainly will.

Hope this helps :)
