Oh preschool, make any new friends on UHH today? If you haven't been there yet, you might try out the Attic, think of it as the smoker's lounge or detention room, depending on your school years.

HEY! I resent that comparison. I made some good friends in detention. Minor infractions - Catholic school - they handed out detentions like it was Communion. 🙄👹

Before you jump into a Z7ii, read the very detailed review by froknowsphoto.com. He is very high on the new Z9 and tells how much better the tracking is compared to the earlier Z series cameras. You may want to look into getting a Z9 instead.

No doubt the Z7 9 is a better camera but it is over double price of the Z7ii. If money is no object then go for the best but...

Regardless of the soft focus bird face and plumage---I did say you had an extraordinary photo which is more than I can say for your comments. On person commented on old trains---but otherwise---zilch.---

Post it to the Gallery if you seek praise.

Better shine that light on your mirror.
If the people on this forum don’t measure up to your standards of photographic skills, or anything else that dwells within your extraordinary superiority complex, then just take your crap to another forum where you will no doubt be welcomed with open arms. In other words, just take your toys and go the hell away.

He’s major entertainment and you are not. You clearly have other value, but please don’t deny his value.

This is after all an entertainment venue. If someone learns something here it’s a happy accident ... and acoarst accidents do happen.

Sorry, I didn’t realize I signed up to keep you entertained. My bad.
Problem is, his value is depreciating much more rapidly than it ought to - and, sad to say, it’s his own doing. Double declining balance to the nth degree (sorry, try as I might, 50 years of accounting doesn’t disappear just because you retire and wish it would.)
But, I hope YOU have a good day.

By all means if you want one and can afford it - more excellent used gear for those of us who still prefer the DSLR.

Good point. Moving from my film to digital has been a costly experience, and I still need to purchase my software. Nevertheless, I look forward to the learning experience.

So, the real reason for a possible change is the size/weight issue, not final image. In that case, yes, rent the Z7II. Be ready to go "whole hog". As seasons change in life, we too must do. Best if going mirrorless is to sell totally out of your DSLRs and get Z lenses as well, relegating the DSLR/heavier cameras to the past. The new 28-75 Z lens on the Z7II would be a great start!

I instead started my Z6ii with a Z 35mm f/1.8 S. It matches up nicely with the low light capabilities of the Z6ii. I will use the camera primarily for night street photography.

I have had 2 D850’s since the first releases. Both have the battery packs so are configured identical.
For the most part, I keep a 24-120mm on one and the 200-500mm on the other.
When the Z7II came out I thought about getting one but caught wind that a Z9 was in development.
I got my Z9 in one of the first shipments. I sold off one of my D850’s. Still getting used to the changes. Some are pro some are con. Don’t have time to elaborate right now.
Do I regret buying the Z9? No! But what I would suggest before you make the investment, if you can, rent the mirrorless camera you are considering buying.
Only you can make the choice for your needs and likings. Not anyone here.
As far as the lenses, I got the 14-30 z lens. The configuration is 1 1/2 pounds lighter than my D850 and 14-24. I got the FTZ adapter and tested my 70-200, 80-400 and 200-500 on the Z9 and found no issues, yet.
I have had 2 D850’s since the first releases. Both... (show quote)

Enjoy!

Landscape ? Kit weight ? Full frame ? That mix is a problem ?!? If you make it a problem then I spoze it’s a problem ... for someone.

But for myself, I’m just not into inventing problems to fret over. A lightweight FF body and a selection of very small lenses is not expensive nor hard to find. Why carry more ? Why spend more ?
.

Has worked for me using a similar prime setup since the early 1970's.

It’s always the same refrain: “The images from your m4/3 that you easily carry are vastly superior to the images that you didn’t get from your FF that you didn’t carry cuz it’s too big.”

And as you mention, it’s the lenses. Cuz if the lenses are small enough then even a FF outfit is no burden (pix attached).

Nice kit!

The Z7II WITH a Z 28-75 2.8 lens weighs only 44 ounces. The D850 with a 24-70 2.8 AF VR weighs 72 ounces; nearly a 2 pound increase. If weight is an issue, certainly mirrorless would be a welcome switch.

The new Z 28mm f/2.8 is another small light weight option. It is not an S lens, but the quality is good or average. It is also only $300.00.

Often old digitals work as well as new ones. Although I have over a dozen digitals now---I began with a Sony DSC P93--5.1mpixel--before they became slim. It uses only two AA batteries and I use it for quick shots today. When I heard the old familiar sound of a steam train in our town, I rushed down. A.T.& SF. also has the same engine in working order.
