Went to the Phoenix Zoo yesterday. My favorites are the big cats. It's a long way from the lions to the jaguars and the tigers, with cheetahs about 1/2 way in between. But it's a beautiful walk! Enjoy. Comment. And thanks for looking.
Designs were still up for Zoo Lights, and these sculptures were all over the place. They are life-size (and larger) and REALLY neat. They light up at night.

This is the "new" lion. The old one died some years back.

He picked up this black plastic can and carried it around for awhile. I had never seen a lion's ruff from the back. Interesting.

I had to shoot this guy through plexi that made the image be off-coloured and really soft. Took some work to get it this good.

Thanks, Dodie. Those plastic sculptures are really life-like! I always go for the big cats. Occasionally I visit the giraffes also.
Very good set, Kathy! Do you think that the lion is attempting a comb over? (LOL)

Lol! I don't know, Mike. Do you suppose he has been watching TV?

Great set Kathy
The windows and chain link have made me almost stop going to our zoo, not to mention the ignorant acting people.
Plexi, and chain link to protect the animals.

Thanks, Frank. Sometimes I can get my camera to shoot through the chain link so that it's invisible. Sometimes not. I talked with a volunteer there about how dirty the plexi was. She says they wash it every day! But it still leaves a film and a colour cast. But, yes, they have to protect the animals.
