From what I read on their website, you can have a replica made if it exactly matches.

Thanks. I will pursue that. The people at our local branch told me that the plate had to be authentic.

Check with Volo Classic Car Museum. I think they sell old plates

Thank you for your suggestion! Very helpful. The people in Volo Illinois are very helpful. They referred me to their antique mall. The folks there are checking the inventory of all their dealers.

Thank you for your interest and you are welcome. I hope your wish for one comes true too. I will be 90 soon so it can take a while.
The car is still with my son in another state. When it gets here I will gladly share more pictures - including interior and other details.
Getting it registered and titled is another quest. In those years the serial number was stamped on the engine block. During assembly a worker would read the engine number and stamp the same number on the top of the frame rail. That means that we have to unbolt and lift the body to verify the number. To complicate matters this car had an engine swap in its past. Apparently the old engine was rebuilt and put in another car. That serial number was then used to register a car in Missouri. This complicates matters because a state won’t register a car if one with the same serial number is already registered in another state.
This car does have a title somewhere. We are waiting for the previous owner to find it.

Buy an issue of Hemmings Motor News and look in the Auto related classifieds in the back of the magazine. Usually, there are a number of vendors selling old license plates for various years and states.
