I have a Canon R5 which is currently operating with version 1.3 Firmware. I have previously updated the firmware with no problems so yesterday I thought that I would update to thee latest version (1.5). I followed all of the directions as I did in the past. I put a fresh SD card in the camera and formatted it. Then I took the card out put it in the computer and copied the file (eosr5-v150-mac.dmg)onto the the SD card. I then put the card back in the camera put the camera in P mode and in Menu I went to to the firmware screen. The only two choices were the camera Firmware 1.3 and one for the lens. When I click on the camera firm ware I get a message that essentially says that the card is missing. I must have repeated this process about twenty time making small changes to the card ---- I am stumped and and would really appreciate any help.
Try formatting the card in the camera. Sorry. See that you already did that.

Clicking on the downloaded dmg file should reveal that it contains two files named something like:
EOSR5150.FIR and update-procedure-pdf.
You should copy just the EOS5150.FIR file to the root directory of the SD card and then insert it into your camera.
If clicking on the dmg file doesn't work, just download the firmware upgrade file for windows. It contains the same two files and can be opened on a mac.
Thanks to all who responded. When I described the problem I left out the most important fact and that is that I have a new MacBook with the M1 Pro chip. When I called Canon I immediately learned that the firmware download is not compatible with that chip. So i guess that I live with ver 1.3 for a while and wait for Canon to release a version that is compatible with the M1 chip.
Thanks for the feed back.
The R5 has 2 different chips, how about the other one?

It's the dmg file for the 1.5 firmware update is not compatible with the M1 chip. Curiously, the 1.4 dmg update is.
Nonetheless, you can download the "windows" version, click on it, and get to the fir file that you need. Since the fir file is for the camera, it's the same regardless of the download package (dmg vs. windows folder).
So you can still upgrade if you wish to do so. Use the dmg if you want version 1.4, or try using the windows version if you want 1.5.
Thanks David I will give that a try

The .dmg file is to be executed on the Mac which will extract the file you need. Place that file on your card. Check and follow the directions carefully. Best of luck.

The problem is that a new mac with M1 chip can't execute the dmg file for the 1.5 firmware upgrade (although it can execute the dmg for the 1.4 firmware upgrade.) He should be able to get the fir file he needs from the windows version.

Why 2 cards ?. Why not use the card that has the downloaded files
