Family outing - Montana style!

Mama and the girls out for a picnic in our back yard. This is the way they get ready for the cold and nutritionally-inhospitable winters here. They are here pretty much year round, and when the babies are first born in the spring they are a delight to see romping and running around. Nature is pretty awesome!

Aww, what a treat to see year round! Here in the midwest they're a mixed blessing. Pretty, of course, but they hide in the cornfields so we hardly ever see them, and they knock down great swaths of corn for bedding areas, then eat some of the rest. So they're more of a pest. Wish I could send you a few truckloads, haha.

Yes, their "cuteness factor" is sometimes outweighed by their voracious appetite for almost anything growing in my garden! Have to surround the plants with bear wire and spray with deer repellant... they don't like marigolds, however, so we have a lot of those!
