Many thanks. Lovely shots. Googled "Effate" with no success. Would you be kind enough to elaborate particularly the permission from the owner comment
.In the old days at least the 90’s when I started going to Kauai .., the Garden was known as “The People’s Gathering Place” .., Only locals knew of this place .., when you went there . There was a sing posted inside a plastic sleeve on the big fence post 100 yards from the opening .., that sign read “ if your name is not registered in town at such and such .,, then you have no permission to enter this property “ ..,
When I later went into Princeville ., I told a local shop owner where I had been and they got upset .., asking how I knew about this place .. etc ..
It was An employee At the Grand Hyatt Kauai that I regularly tipped for service rendered and even tipped after a Breakfast $100 on 1 occasion .., in any event .. that later led up to Meeting Bill the owner .. and spending hours on More than one occasion.., listening to his Navy stories and the history of the property ..sadly he has passed away , but sitting with him ,, his daughter and a nurse who always accompanied him .., watching the sun set on his property .., was something I will always treasure ..,

Second all those recommendations, additionally, I like the beaches on the north end as they will provide beauty with less crowding. Some examples of free stuff best viewed in download. If you don’t do a helicopter tour a cheaper alternative are the giant inflatables leaving Hanalei Bay to see NaPali coast. They will take you into a couple of the sea caves. Two tips, some hikes are slippery when wet (don’t wear flip flops) and winter can be a bit sketchy with the rip tides. Photos are mostly snaps but will hopefully give you some idea. #1&2 Ke’e, #3Lumahai Beach, #4Secrets Beach, #5 Polihale Beach (reef), #6 Na Pali from inflatable boat, #7 Kilauea, #8 Waimea Canyon, #9 swimming spot at Queens Bath and # 10 garden area near Princeville.

Would appreciate thoughts on where and what to photograph in Kauai
Well, Jsykes, I'm happy to oblige . . . get ready for a joyful ride . . .
Bill Taylor here. My wife and I discovered Kauai in 2004 and went back 13 times over the next 14 years. I have over 20,000 images from our trips covering most every visitable area of "The Garden Isle" plus a half dozen aerial trips on helicopters and planes. So here goes!
To start, let me recommend the best handbook I have found regarding Kauai: "Kauai Revealed - The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" that is now in at least its 12th edition. That is how we got started knowing Kauai and I highly recommend it. It is also now in app form for iOS and Android as "Kauai Revealed".
Next I would visit our website,
www.our-kauai.com . While incomplete, you will find a trove of images and later videos from all over Kauai. On my last trip there in 2018 I took a drone for the first time and got some great images and video from the air.
If you want to know more, please contact me at bill@billtaylor.com. Enjoy the link and enjoy Kauai. I can't wait to get back there this year when (hopefully) the Covid pandemic has waned.

Yes I second Kalalau Valley. There is a trail below the chain link fence at the left side of the overlook. First half not bad, narrow in places but the last climb to the top overlooking Na Pali is a bit sketchy. I did it when I was 70 so it’s doable if you are careful. Zoom the mountain top (picture 2)and you wil see the end of the trail where the couple is standing. Sorry number two flashes when selected and then disappears and won’t load.
Finally got the photo of the second half of the hike to the end of Kalalau Valley. Like I said I wouldn’t advise unless you are pretty sure footed. You can see the couple on the top if you zoom in.
The clay there is very slippery. The footing can be treacherous at times. People do get into danger so enjoy the magnificent views but remain cautious. I’ve hiked some of that area over the years. The dawn trek is rewarded by all of those beautiful small birds that I never can pronounce and the sound of the surf pounding in it’s rhythmic manner. Get there early before the helicopters arrive. It is magic.
The photos in this post are all amazing! (I've got to get out more)

Every where on the island is just beautiful. It took my brother and me an eternity to get to the Pu’u O Kila Lookout but the spectacular view of the Kalalau Valley and Napali Coast is worth the effort. If you want to hike (with good hiking shoes and poles), start early because the fog will roll in and fill the valley around 11ish. I also recommend helicopter tour to see the Napali Coast, bring a FF with 28mm fast lens.
