PS CS5 - There are several ways to accomplish the results. I think I went the harder route. I used one of them as a base layer. Then I used the Place under File to place the other into the layer. Sized it the best I could and then used the Transform tool SKEW to move some selections such as an eye, nose, and an ear into a Position that matched the position of the other half cat. I had to use the clone stamp tool to fix the areas that were affected by the Skew tool.
This is the best I can remember of the steps I used.

Two steps I left out were to make a new layer, resize the canvas to the right side before placing the second half of a cat into the layers panel. That is when the alignment was done. I know this might be confusing but I'm sure most users with compositing skills can or could work it out.
