While my wife and I were out for a morning walk yesterday this train left the Carpinteria, CA Station headed South about 7:15 AM. As it was early and my photos came out dark I showed the photo to a retired pro photographer friend who post processed it in Photoshop. Much better than I could do. This is the combined result.

Thank you Jay Pat. Thank you for taking a look and commenting.

Not only is it modern looking, though not like a high speed rail train, it is also incredibly quiet. I am used to Freight trains that are really loud as it goes by. This train was quiet in comparison.

Thank you very much sb. I appreciate your comment. The good thing is the train station is only a few blocks from the house so I will have other opportunities.

Darn it, I always thought THIS was the land of Oz. Guess not.

I love your picture, Dennis!
I also love the klackity clack sound of the wheels as a train goes by. That is half the enjoyment of watching the train! The other half is the bell and the air chimes!

Thanks for the photo. It is a nice catch.

As to the noise difference. Freight trains usually have many more cars and more locomotives than passenger trains and thus are much noisier. The site below goes through some examples.

Thank you Jill. I love the train noises too. In the 1960’s I rode a train occasionally from NC to NYC. Then a commuter train North from there home, about 60 miles or so. Completely different engines and noises back then. Of course I was only 18 then. I make different noises these days too.

Thank you Richard. The Surfliner made a noise unlike other trains I have heard. I suspect you are correct about the freight compared to passenger trains.

Thanks too for the link. Interesting.
