Hi; i use Luminar AI and the beta version of Luminar Neo since the full version hasn`t been released yet. to me they are easier to learn than photoshop. Just my opinion. I`ve been shooting nearly 40 years however i do it for fun only. Before and after images .

Hello Sue. Lots of recommendations. I use a Mac and PS Elements. Look at tutorials. What works for us may not work for you. Utilize trial versions.
Welcome.

I suppose it depends on one's processing requirements for the computer.

Me, I just get one (Windows) with a bunch of memory and a large hard drive, of the shelf. (but not $200)
My two are about ten years old..... They work well for me.

But some here will have no problem spending your money for the super best stuff,
in their opinion, for their desires.

I don't get caught up with super neato, gee-whiz-bang stuff, or the need for speed,
and have been programming/working with computers since 1972.

Finally, someone with the same feelings about getting "the latest and greatest" as me. I have been working with and around computers since my Air Force days in the late sixties but I don't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. I still have Windows 8.1 and no desire to upgrade. While an engineer, I had an HP Vectra computer for many years and they had to force me to upgrade it. If it works and serves your needs, why change it!

I use NX Studio, a free download from Nikon. Relatively simple and easy to use irregardless if you take either .nef (raw) or .jpeg. Try it first as it costs you nothing

Hi everyone , I have a d500 Nikon camera bought a few years ago with a few lenses, I would really love to master it. I am going to get a new computer mainly for photography - any suggestions welcome, also can anyone suggest a good processing easy to use program - not photoshop . Looking forward to being a member of this forum.

Welcome. I am sure there will be a large number of responses for more knowledgeable than I
to answer your questions. But you have found a great place to learn. Enjoy.

Welcome.
I like Photoshop Elements. And I use Elements+ ($10), and Tony Kuyper luminosity masks(Free for Elements).

You could also use Darktable, a free Light Room type processer.

Topcat…. Is Elements+ able to be used for raw and jpeg files or only raw. I’m interested in checking this out. Also does it allow you to change background or sky coloring

Welcome Sue..I've been using FastStone for many, many years now and it's the best viewer/editor I've ever used..the best thing is, it's free. Why pay for something that's not as good..? It's also only about a 5MB download.
If you'd like to PM me I can help you further.
Cheers,
Ron.
