Here is something of interest to Z9 folks released today from Gerald Undone, one of the best and most thorough independent reviewers/creators in the business, and a well respected one.

Hi gwilliam6,

Yes I know Gerald Undone well - he's crazy😜 lol.

I have watched his videos for years, but thanks for pointing out this video, which (as always) was very comprehensive - he truly is a great reviewer.

His conclusion that the "Nikon Z9 is one of, if not the best, mirrorless hybrid cameras on the market today" says it all for what I have been trying to get across in our discussions, and Gerald is normally a Sony guy.

The notion that Sony is the best at everything all the time is just wrong. Sony is great and their system has been extremely innovative. Frankly, Sony deserves a lot of the credit for cameras like the Z9 (or R5 / R3 from Canon) as it is likely these cameras would not have been developed (certainly not as quickly) if it were not for Sony pushing the market and forcing innovation.

That said, all three of the big ones (Nikon, Sony and Canon) are all at a level as of the writing of this post that there is no clear superior one of the three. All three have certain strengths were they are superior to the others and weaknesses where they are inferior to the others.

As I have been stating, it comes down mostly to personal choice and most importantly use case.

I have no doubt that Sony will answer the Z9 with a mega camera that somehow bests the Z9 in video, and likely Canon will do the same with the R1 as it appears that camera will not release for at least another year, and then Nikon will respond 2-3 years from now and the cycle of one besting the other and then being bested will resume, which is the best state of affairs for all of us consumers as this is how we end up with camera like the Z9, A1, and R1/3 - and how we end up with prices that are reasonable for the product - the Z9 is likely underpriced at $5500 but market pressure encouraged Nikon to make it very competitive financially and again the consumer wins. Anyway, no point in rehashing what we all know to be true.

With respect to your Facebook ground, I do not normally use (or like) Facebook, but what is the name of your FB group - would be interesting to check it out :)

Gerald Undone and others that have used them all still agree that the A1 is tops in some categories over the excellent Z9. But I linked the Gerald Undone one just to give you some love. LOL

Nikon is being very secretive about it, but some experts believe the Z9 sensor was developed with Nikon getting help from Sony Imaging like they have for many years, and was built by Sony . But neither Sony or Nikon will confirm, but also won't deny it either. lol

Here is my facebook group, International Photography Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/3048747915213474

Here is one of my facebook pages: Here you will find some of my shots taken with Sony, Canon and Nikon pro gear over the years.

Folks remember this thread is about the Sony A7IV and NOT really another debate about Z9 vs the world. LOL

Cheers

Thinking about jumping ship from Nikon dslr to Sony mirrorless. I’m interested in the new Sony a7 IV thoughts???

It's probably better than what you currently use. Go for it, if you want it. What others think is irrelevant.

My first Sony professional was the a99M2 Camera full frame with 8 full frame lenses. Then I went to the Sony RX10M4 as my backup camera which I like. Do not have to change the lenses and the photos are just a clear and wonderful as the a99M2. My opinion would be that it is in the hands of the users. Mainly what the users wants to do with the camera and if he can afford the new Sony and someday the new lenses to go with it then go for it. It is his choice. All he asked for was what you thought of the camera not an argument of what camera is better Sony, Canon or Nikon. This is what I have been reading for the people they are voting on which camera is better and not giving their opinion as to the difference between the two.
