Leaving 12/11 for cruise to the Panama Canal. Taking the Sony RX10IV and Nikon A1000. Stops in Limon, Costa Rica and Casa Maya, Mexico. Very excited.

My wife & I will be leaving Ft. Lauderdale Dec 9 2021 for Grand Turk and on to Columbia, Panama Canal, Limon Costa Rica, Jamaica and will be taking our RX10IV, Nikon P900 and Sony a99II. We hope as in the past cruises will get some things we like.

Our last cruise was to Alaska.

We cancelled our cruise, that was scheduled for February this year. Too risky. On February 29, 2020 our Princess cruise ship returned to LA from South Pacific cruise, just few days before the pandemic was announced and all the hell broke loose. We were so lucky that we didn't get stuck on our ship, like passengers on the Diamond Princess.

Yes, we toured Iceland in June on Viking, a trip every one should do. Because I went specifically for Puffins I took my D850 and Nikon 500 PF lens. I also took my Nikon 24-120.
For our thermal Spa I took my Nikon AW130. My wife took my favorite camera of all time, the Sony HX99, simply the best pocket camera ever made.

It depends on what we expect to see. If we'll see wildlife I'll take my D850 or its replacement. Otherwise, my Z50.

I don't have a camera that is always with me. I do have a couple of phones that are almost always with me but not for their cameras. I don't think I would ever want to go on a cruise ship. Now with the pandemic it's absolutely no no.

Viking does a very good job on testing. At the Iceland airport, we were given the nose test (yuck), then on board we were quarantined in our rooms and given an on board saliva test, we were given a dinner and wine. As soon as one of the two tests were confirmed negative , we were allowed to go ashore. We also had to have our vaccination records with us.
We were then tested each morning and wore tracking devices in case of exposure.
My wife, a former nurse, and I felt very comfortable with the testing protocols, in fact, we felt safer on the cruse than we would have felt at home going out.
Bottom line, folks should make up their own minds for their comfort level.
My wife and I have a very small window to travel, we will not live our lives in fear, we will live our lives as safe as possible and enjoy each day as it comes and take all reasonable precautions. IMHO

On one right now. Viking from Barcelona to San Juan. Mixed reaction since we spit in tubes every morning and wear masks all the time out of stateroom. Not nearly the same personal interaction. 900 individuals nodding hello and not much else we also wear an electronic tracking device everywhere. This is too long but 1st night shared a table with 4 others one whom tested positive. He’s in quarantine and we were told “technology” would tell us if we were in danger. So far so good.

My wife went on a couple of cruises and from listening here, her and others I would have more fun beating my fingers with a hammer than going on a cruise.

We have reservations for next June, hoping things stay as good as currently, but hoping for ever better. We'll be able to nicely relax as soon as we reach herd immunity.

If you take a small boat cruise in Alaska, I guarantee you will not be bored. Something like one of these:

My wife and I were on one about 7 years ago. One passenger never came in for meals. He stayed out taking pictures all the time.

We both want to do it again.

If you want something more relaxed but not boring, check out river cruises in Europe. Just make sure the boat is not too big.

Photoman, we've been to Europe several times, but never a river cruise. We actually DO like to watch off the balcony as the ship moves. But on the river cruises, I've been told that they move at night, and are anchored during the day for excursions. Is that accurate?
