This is one of the few reasons I love smaller form camera's that are a joy to use, even some of the tab bit larger ones with manual dials such as the Fuji X series camera's I have been researching on for a purchase.

Thank you for sharing that video. I couldn’t agree more. There was a point, probably a vacation, when I made the “risky” decision to leave the DSLRs and the pile of lenses home and take my Canon G16 along instead. Future trips and picture walkabouts included the same G16 or sometimes a SX50 or SX70 or S100 I converted to IR. The camera accompanied me rather than being the focus (no pun intended). Today, it’s still the G16 or G1x iii or G3x that come along. I wish the “G” lenses were a little brighter, but that might solved with a G5x ii? The small compacts just make life easier and more relaxing….

Small cameras are not just more convenient. They improve the odds on getting unique keepers on trips. They are less obtrusive and threatening in a travel environment. For landscapes, maybe not. But for people, culture and atmosphere, small cameras are more useful.

I have to wonder if all these major camera manufacturers made a huge mistake not completing with the smart phone manufacturers?

Some have! Certainly Sony gets it that the smartphone users often need something more. The RX10 and RX100 series seem to be proof.

My personal favorites are the Lumix DMC-ZS series. Leica designed 28-720 mm equivalent, full manual operation, live viewfinder as well as a large LCD and RAW images. I'm about to upgrade from the ZS40 to the ZS100 because I wore the 40 out (I stared with a ZS-3 which I also wore out). The best part is it will fit in my shirt pocket so I always have it with me. I did just buy a PowerShot 540 HS, mainly because I could get a filter adapter but I think I have a work around adapter for the Lumix.
