You are right, I could have. But in my ignorance about Microsoft's inexplicable refusal to support an industry standard, I didn't bother. You can guess what that says about Microsoft. But many of us may remember that they do this sort of thing a lot and thus we should not be surprised. I'll stay with Mac, thanks anyhow.

After so many people said they could not open the picture I tried it on my wife's Windows PC, a very recent build. I was sadly surprised at how many programs could not do it. Notwithstanding one reply that said it worked in MS's Photos, it did not work on her PC. That may be because we have not put any helper apps like that on it.

So, for those of you who still want to see the JPG version, I went back to the saved in-process file and exported a full quality JPG. Here it is. I was surprised to see that the JPG file is slightly smaller than the HEIC. That is the opposite of what HEIC is supposed to be, if I understand the internet sources correctly.
