Children see magic because they look for it where we old folk look to make sense of the world.

Photo outings with my granddaughter were wonderful moments. She too, had a good eye for composition and frequently took very interesting images.
Currently, I am doing outings with a young man, the son of friends. We did a astrophotography outing at Mt Rainier and one of his images won a 1st place ribbon in the youth category at the Washington State Fair. A wonderful moment for both this young man and his old mentor.

Elliott,

Your granddaughter’s success is evidence she has an excellent teacher. Cute story!

Very nice. So now you have to get her a camera for Christmas!

At first glance I thought the first shot was going to be your complaint on trash in the river. After a closer look I realized it was the leaves and the white rocks that look like plastic bags. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you until you realize first impressions are completely different than reality. Something to remember. All shots are good. I like the one with the bridge the most.

Funny my first glance I thought the same thing!

Thanks everyone - she's too immature to have her own "real" camera although she does have her own iPhone and takes photos with it. She'll use my Z50 when we go out and when she's 15 or so I'll get her one if she wants one.

Great shots Elliott. She has a good eye. I sometimes can't believe some of the shots my 9 year old granddaughter gets. You have someone to pass your old stuff down to when you get GAS!

Thanks again! I think she does have a good eye, but the best part is that she enjoys being together.

Yesterday I took my 10 year old granddaughter, Kayla, to a nearby stream filled with Canada Geese and ducks and showed her how to use my Nikon Z50 with the 16-50mm lens. I set it at 50mm, 1/50sec, aperture wide open, auto iso, and back button focusing. She had no problems getting sharp images from the start. Her compositions improved during the stay and only had a couple of questions for me. I was using my D850 with the Nikon 70-300mm lens. Frequently, she wanted to compare shots - we both liked hers as well or better! This was her first time out!
I need to up my game to keep face!
Here's a sample of her shots.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!
Yesterday I took my 10 year old granddaughter, Kay... (show quote)

She definitely has a great potential, Elliott! Happy Thanksgiving!
