My workflow begins in Lightroom Classic and often includes editing in Photoshop. The edited image comes back to LrC as a .psd file. Occasionally, the .psd file in the LrC grid view includes a badge that says something to the effect that metadata has been changed by another application. It then asks if I want to import the changed metadata into the catalog, overwrite the metadata on disk from the catalog or cancel.
I almost never explicitly change the metadata in Photoshop, so what kind of metadata is Photoshop changing? It I choose to import the metadata, will it alter anything that LrC cares about? If I overwrite the metadata, will I loose anything of importance to Photoshop?
I've watched a number of tutorials and classes by Julianne Kost and other LrC experts and done some searching on the Adobe help website but have not seen this topic discussed to more than a superficial degree.

Why not take a couple of “throwaway” shots, and try out both choices to see what happens? Nothing lost.
Interesting, but not really responsive to my question.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did something similar, comparing metadata before and after importing the changed metadata. It turns out that the differences are things like File Name, Dimensions, etc.--In other words the kinds of things one would expect to change in Photoshop.
This raises the question in my mind as to why you would overwrite the metadata on the disk with what's in the Lightroom catalog. At least now I know how I will reply the the question when it comes up.
