Just curious, which view do you prefer?
#2 because the vanishing point is bright enough to draw the eye.
I prefer number two as it seems more close and personal. Less distraction from the bright area in the sky above the road that is in number one.

Both are great photos!!! My vote is for #2. When you are photographing a road you want to make it so appealing that the viewer wants to know what is down that road, over that hill, around that bend. In photo 1 the sky is brighter and leads your eyes to the top of the photo and away from the road. If you will scroll this page to the point where you have "cropped" the sky out of photo 1 you will see that it brings your focus back to the road; your main subject. With the closer view of photo 2 you bring that curiosity of where it goes to the forefront. Photo 1 is a beautiful photo showing the wonderful colors of fall and should not be disregarded but #2 has that extra something that makes it more appealing.

The second. The road is the first is a bit unnatural looking. Want to jump into number two and go for a run.

#1 but only a little over #2. The sky ads dimension for me. Well done.

I like both! Did you notice the 'arch of light', and the trees are framing the road in #1.
#2 draws the into the center, inviting you to look further up that road.
I’ll be the odd person out--my vote goes to the first one.
I like both although the first one would be much better than it is with a different cropping.

For me, #1 takes the prize. It is a far superior composition. The road disappears into the distance - which is almost a pre-requisite for long winding roads. However - both shots are pleasant.
