Hello, my first post here.
Welcome to UHH ecamppdx, glad you finally joined us. I also shoot with Nikon equipment. Have done so since 1975. Can't help you with your focus problem, hope someone else can. If not try contacting Nikon.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

I am in NW Oregon, just west of Portland. I did a few photo trips up to Mount Hood this past summer.
Thanks! Well, once again, welcome to this great place.
Welcome. I would contact Sigma. Maybe they can tell you something. Does the lens manual say anything about it?
Thank you all for your welcome, and ideas on my lens issue. I got the issue figured out over the weekend.
I took the camera and lens into a local camera shop to see if they might know what the issue was. Two guys looked at it but had no idea why the lens would not autofocus. We discussed that my D600 did have the latest C1.04 firmware update, but still, I left with my lens not being able to autofocus.
After getting home I read a post about a D600 no longer auto focusing with a Sigma zoom lens that had worked on that body before updating the camera’s firmware. It was not the same lens I have, but after going back to a previous version of the firmware their lens auto focused once again.
I did a little digging on the internet and found older versions of Nikon D600 firmware. I’m now using C1.02 firmware and L2.018 lens distortion control, and things seem to be working fine, auto focus and all. Firmware version C1.03 was also a no-go with this lens.
It seems most of what C1.03 and C1.04 deal with has to do with AF-P lenses. I don’t have any AF-P lenses. Most of my glass is AF-S G or AF D, etc. As a side note, C1.02 does allows for installation of L2.018 lens distortion control, C1.01 does not.
