I set up my tripod and camera in my backyard while working from home in my patio. Then this guy dropped in and started snacking on the seeds I spread last week. At least he didn’t leave when I slowly moved over to the camera to take a few shots.

Last year during the breeding season I had a pair that hunted bugs for their nestlings when I watered the front yard and got the bugs stirred up. The one in the yard would catch them, then pile them on the edge of the concrete near my chair until there was a full load. Then that bird took off with the bugs and within a minute the other would show up and repeat. In the back yard I see them after the seeds that fall from the feeders or the ripe seeds on plants that sprout under the feeders. I let them grow they are more interesting than just grass and I get to see the birds feed on them.

Great bird that brings back memories. I was confined to home with rheumatic fever when I was 7 or 8 and I started feeding the birds in my yard--Quaker Oats. The Brown Towhees were one of the first birds to visit the feeder.

Curmudgeon, I can’t imagine how hard that must have been, but very cool that even at that age you cared for the little birds. Feel free to print a copy as a reminder of getting through that time.
