Does anyone have thoughts on whether an iPad or iPad Air or iPad Pro for use during travel works well or well enough for using Lightroom?
Thanks,
Bakodi

If you have the subscription, that is the intended purpose of the mobile LR version. You might be limited by the cloud-storage to hold all your images while in the field, but the idea is you can edit and merge those edits into your main LR classic catalog when get home, possible continuing to edit from the WIP from the field. Double-check the supported platforms for your equipment and OS.

Yes, if you have an Apple Pencil, which makes for a pleasant experience. While I don't have the full range of plugins and presets available on my iPad, for quick posting on line, LR Mobile is great.

Roy...

As we travel, I have access to an iPad and I also carry 15 inch laptop.. My wife and I, currently have been away from home over 8 weeks as we speak now... traveling the Eastern side of the United States and I've chosen to do all of my editing on the laptop. Let me explain further...

With the above scenario, using a laptop, I have been able to synchronize my 2 Tb Google Drive account with my desktop at home... What appears in my "Google Drive" on my laptop, is exactly what appears on my desktop at home almost 2,500 miles away. All of my images and my Lightroom catalog are both stored on the Google Drive which is also synchronized into the clouds. As soon as I offload my images from my SD card, onto my laptop, and I connect my laptop to my hotel room internet connection, the synchronization process begins to update so that when I get home everything is exactly the same...

As of lest year ago, that process could not be accomplished with Lightroom mobile because you were mandated to use their cloud system. The current system I used with Google, cost me $9.99/month and that is for a total of 2 terabytes of storage. Using the Adobe Cloud System would cost you far much more than that....

With the above system, I can easily edit my photographs with Lightroom CC during initial modification (as we travel) so that I can publish my images on Facebook, and then, when I get home -- because I have the same exact files on my Google Drive I can spend much more time on my "faster gaming style desktop" to edit and further detail and determine which ones I really want to spend a lot of time on for the purposes of developing a real fine quality photograph

In addition to the above, I also use "Chrome Remote Desktop Login" -- a Chrome Web Browser Extension -- on my laptop, which allows me to log directly into my machine at home and I can see exactly what's going at home and I can perform any operations with my desktop at home directly from my motel room...

YES~~ all of the above is a little "Techie". But, it is a system that I have developed and put in place over the last year and it works very well for me. As of right now, like I said we've been traveling eight weeks, I currently have right at a little over 1/2 terabyte on my laptop, images that we have taken in the last 8 weeks and, an exact copy of all that data is already stored on my desktop at home as we speak...

Hope the above information makes a little sense to you. I would feel free to answer any questions for you and I wish you all the best

Cheers
George Veazey

Yes, I’ve used LR on my iPad Pro for basic edits for social media. If you’re just doing slider adjustments or cropping you’ll be fine, but if you’re using brushes or cloning things out you’ll want the Apple Pencil.

I have been an Apple user for many years own/owned multiple iPads and MacbookPros and iPhones. I bought the iPad Pro to evaluate its usefulness in my photography workflow.

After several years of trying, I have concluded that I am better off with a small MacBookPro than an iPad.

The iPad is a decent piece of hardware but it is terribly hobbled by iOS. Things that take seconds in MacOS take multiple pokes at the screen and keystrokes using IOS. Some things are not even possible. Very frustrating. Apple has had many years to improve iOS but here we are. IOS sucks.

A 13” MacBookPro is about the same size as an IPad, actually the MBP is smaller if you account for the iPAD case and aftermarket keypad. And the MBP runs MacOS. Unlike iOS MacOS is a full featured operating system that enables high productivity and efficiency.

And one more thing, you can’t do a true a screen calibration using IOS. Yet another limitation of iOS.

The iPad is great for reading email and surfing the net. I will not buy another iPAD for photography work.

I am an amateur photographer and use LR mobile almost exclusively. I upload all my RAW files directly into the LR Mobile app on my MACBOOK Air. From there I edit them and send them to my IPhoto app on my IPAD and IPhone as JPEG files.

When I travel, I down load images on to my IPad using Nikon SanpBridge to post a few travel photos to family and friends.

I have 5G of Cloud storage on my Adobe Creative subscription, which I pay for monthly.
I have stopped using an external hard drive to store images…since Google photos, Amazon Prime, One Drive and Shutterfly all save my images in the cloud.

This system has worked for me for travels to Italy, Ireland, France, Croatia,Slovenia, Russia, Denmark and Sweden. I do not take my laptop, just my IPAD which I upgrade every few years. When I get home, I rework and edit photos in more depth.

I also publish an annual coffee table photo book of my favorite shots, so the mobile app works for me!

Thanks to all for your input.
I have a MacBook Pro w/o cellular access, and I do use it for LR photo editing when I travel.
I was looking to get something smaller with cellular capabilities, and was thinking about the latest iteration of cellular-capable iPad.
I think I will stick with my MacBook and iPhone.

You can use your phone as a cellular hot spot and link it to the computer.
